John Deere LX178 blows fuse when mower is on for a couple minutes

I kind of inherited an older LX178. Have been fixing on it. Put the mower deck on. At first it was totally dead. Replaced the PTO switch. Now mower turns on and runs, but only for about a minute. Then the 15A fuse blows. I am guessing it is either the voltage regulator or the clutch assembly. Any ideas on how to isolate the problem? Or what else could I look for?
thanks

https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=wiring diagram jd lx178 look online at sears multi-meters, an inexpensive one, directions included, print out wiring diagram and go troubleshooting, hands on, all wiring and connections for being tight and secure.

Multimeters from Sears.com instead of changing out parts, this way you can locate the problem or problems and give yourself a pat on the back.
