John Deere lx 279 Kawasaki 17 H.P. Fuel Pump question

I have a John Deere lx 279 with a 17 h.p. Kawasaki engine. The fuel pump is squirting gas out of the weep hole. It's still running good, but raw gas on the exhaust is not good.

I have been looking for a replacement fuel pump and they are crazy high. This mower is old and not worth a lot. Any ideas where I could find the best deal on a fuel pump. My research says it is Kawasaki Part # 99916-2164.

I appreciate any help.

Thanks

Yea me too. This mower is old and I'm not sure how much I want to keep spending on it. That is crazy high for a fuel pump.

Yes my old 350 motor in my truck did not cost that much.

The fuel pump looks like a small block Chevy fuel pump and they are $18 at O'reilly's. This pump is smaller and a $100 higher.

Yes, but millions of small block Chevys and similar were built over the years. The tooling costs for the pumps were covered many years ago.

Some OEM manufacturers do not have any aftermarket suppliers competing in replacement market. So you have to buy OEM, in this case Kawasaki.
