John Deere lawn tractor help

I have a 20 + JD lawn tractor 38 " cut that has a problem... Last night I was cutting my lawn and barely into the process I noticed it was like my deck had lowered to the point it was cutting a section of my sod out of the lawm. I cut the tractor off and attempted to raise the deck to inspect but couldn't see a problem. Upon further inspection I looked behind the tractor and found a bolt with a nut on it broken in half. Also need to add that the mower wont steer properly.

Obviously the broken bolt plays into the damaged mower but was wondering based on the info Ive provided if someone could help me in identifying where the broken bolt came from? Id love to avoid a costly repair if I can.
