One afternoon While Cutting my Grass after installing new tires and in the middle of cutting my lawn with my john deere la125 it stalled. When I restarted it it would not go forward or backward I searched everywhere on the internet and was told it was probably my drive belt or my transmission. (Yes I made sure the gear was engaged in the back pushrod)
anyhow after receiving the same diagnosis from my local john deere dealer (the machine was purchased in 2007 and only had 32 hours on it) I asked them about this and they wanted me to bring it in with no warranty coverage and charge me. When I also mentioned that it was blowing oil out the fuel pump and smoking and pointed out that I read on the internet that this was common with this series motor because the head gaskets where not torqued correct on manufacture the dealer said "well you can't believe everything you read on the internet and then started saying she could not continue the call because "she couldn't hear me". Angry and upset because they also told me they don't repair the sealed "t40" transmission and that if it was broken I would have to replace it....Upset and angry I decided to remove the mower deck so I could check the drive belt and mower decks and pulleys - Everything looked fine. no rust little debris, and pullys and belts all connected and moving freely. Frustrated I had my girlfriend get on and start the mower while it was on jacks and the pto was fine and all belts spinning. so i pulled the rear tires and notice that the axle was spinning a little bit so I grabbed it and was able to stop the spinning with little effort at that pointed I had my girlfriend look at the axe for a sec opinion and she noticed that there was a little notch in the trans axle where the tire slides on and there seemed to be something missing...and sure enough it was this little tiny part that slides into the axle that cost .67 cents was missing on both wheels " M82401 Shaft Key" of course no one at john deere would tell me to check for this and it wasn't posted anywhere as a possibilty for the wheels not locking firmly and turning to drive the mower.
Instead the rude people at Drakes John Deere and lawn and tractor Center service in clarence new york and"judy" where more focused on screwing me into a new transmission or drive belt and/or service.... absolutely no customer service!!! when I was a novice I had my mower serviced by another john dealer authorized service center and the screwed me for over 400 because "it would not start 1 year old at the time. well they told me it was the battery and that it was under warranty at the time so "no charge" what they did do is charge me 400 + for pickup and oil change and leveling the deck and a new spark plug... wow that must have taken almost an hour to do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't buy the b.s. or purchase 1900 John deere product. you will only get screwed by john deere service centers . GO to youtube watch the videos like I did and service yourself be bold and learn how yourself ... You will feel good and save your hard earned money instead of being treated like a sucker by john deere inc.

Understandable that they would think the hydro went out in an La series tractor because the hydros are junk I've replaced 20 or more I've also never heard of somone forgetting to put keys back in the axle shafts so I wouldn't suggest that if somone asked me either

No disrespect Solomon, but that is 95% of the responses I have received for any questions about an item when I have been forced to call NY, so I just figured that was the way of life up there.
Anyway yes I suggest getting the maintenance manual for your mower instead of dealing with Judy and folks like her, I know when my Ztrak goes out of warranty "after I purchase me extended warranty" I with either for the CD unless JD has a better system then I will most likely trade it in for the better system.
