blows smoke out of exhaust in a down grad motion until oil level is down. it run good. any ideals?

This sounds like you over filling thats why smoking till levels down. Or I reading wrong?

OK read the thread again. the rings on the engine is not good anymore. do a compression test and compare it with the recommended as per workshop manual
