My D 110,whicich is about 6 years old, had started running rough. This only happened when the mowing deck was engaged. As of this past Saturday, the engine runs fine when the blades are not engaged, but the minute that I engaged the mowing deck the engine just cuts right out.

Export threadAre you saying it falters under load or just cuts right out as if you turned it off? If it wholly cuts out when you engage the blades I'd suspect a bad operator presence/seat switch.
Before the engine started to cut out, it felt like it was faltering, but only when the mowing deck was engaged. The faltering had been going on for a little while now, about 2 to 3 months. How would a bad seat switch account for the engine cutting off (I'm not saying your wrong, I'm just not very knowledgeable when it comes down to mechanical things) And if that is what the problem is, just how hard is it to fix and/or replace. On most mowers you are able to start and run it without being on the mower (you may have to engage the parking brake), but to ensure that the blades do not operate without an operator they have a seat switch that must be depressed in order to engage the blades, or the engine will cut out. It's a safety feature. It's pretty straight forward to replace. Just a screw or 2 and a couple of push-on connectors usually. Some are adjustable. Sometimes they just get dirty and start acting up. A shot of WD40 followed by exercising the switch up and down can sometimes get more life out of them.
