I have a John Deere 445 that I am having pto problems with. I have replaced the pto switch and the solenoid. Where is the brake and reverse switched? Any advice on where I should go from here?

Are you talking about the reverse switch that cuts off the pto to the mower deck?

Yes. That is where I am thinking I should go next.

Ok. The reverse switch is underneath the tractor about midsection from what I remember. I got mine in 2000 or 2001. It was one of the last made before the new model and it does have the steel cam gear in it instead of the plastic one. I hated it that every time you hit reverse the mower stopped. The switch has a plunger sticking out of it and ----- been a long time now----- when you step on reverse the plunger pops out and kills the pto. I made up a L shaped piece of metal with two holes to match the switch and bolted it in so the plunger can't move. This was 12 or 13 years ago.

I do have the dealer service manual. Sometimes it drives you nuts as it has the 425, 445 and 455 all together in one book that weighs about as much as 2 large city telefone books. I got it with the tractor as a condition of buying it.

I don't know where the sw itch is on the pedal you have to push to start it. On mine it is the only saftey feature that works.
Hope this may help you
