John Deere 420 interlock issues

I am having issues with the interlocks on my JD 420 when I move the shift away from neutral the engine stalls. If I depress the interlock switch the shift arm rests on when it neutral it will run. Has anyone an idea what that may be causing this? Thanks LBG
