I have a 420 garden tractor that starts and runs perfect. It will run forever at an idle but if you run it wide open it will die after 5 to 10 minutes. However it will always start right back up. You don't have to wait for it to cool down as if it was a coil issue! I thought it was not getting enough gas to the carb. so I changed filters, gas line and cleaned the tank out. It still had the same problem. So I took the fuel pump apart. It looks clean and like its working fine. So I hooked a fuel line directly to the carb. and gravity fed it from another clean gas tank and new gas line by passing everything on the tractor(fuel pump, gas lines, gas tank) It still does the same thing. I don't know where to go next. I thought about changing coils with another 420 I have that runs fine just to rule that out. But form my experience a coil going bad will not start right back up. Just wondered if anyone else has had this issue! Thanks Jason

Yes, fuel supply points to your carb. Careful use of compressed air may easily clean it. But first don't overlook the inline fuel filter and tank vent.

How many hours on your JD 420?
