Thanks for this forum. I have a John Deere 165 Hydro that I bought new back in 86. Great machine. I have a steering problem in that it has become very difficult to turn the wheel, lock to lock. I jacked up the front end to remove any load and still the same result. I removed the drag link so as to check the worm gear and steering shaft. The gear and shaft turn freely. It appears to me that my problem lies either in the drag link, ball joint or steering arms. Is there any way to isolate these items and check so I don't have to replace a part that may be good?

I would appreciate advice, suggestions comments and any discount John Deere parts on line outlet.

Thank you all,

Peter L.

With it jacked up and the sector gear disconnected take hold of both wheels and move them left and right to see if there is resistance or if they move free.
