What is the difference between a 14SB with the black handles vs one with the chrome handles?
Also, what is the difference between an SB and an SE.
Finally, what is the difference between a tri-cycler and a non-tri-cycler machine?
For the record, I have an SB with the black handle.

This is from the Shop manual for John Deere mowers from that era.
1 = Derived from 21-inch cutting width
2 = 2-Cycle Engine Design
4 = 4-Cycle Engine Design
B = Blade Brake Clutch (BBC)
C = Commercial Mower
E = Electric Start
P = Push Mower
S = Self-Propelled Mower (2 or 5 speed transaxle)
T = Tri-Cycler Mower
Z = Zone Start (from Operator痴 station or ZONE)
with flywheel band brake
Haven't any idea about the color of the handles. Maybe different years?
A Tri-Cycler had the ability to mulch, with a plug, side discharge, with a chute, or bag.
Interesting. Thanks for the info. I wish mine had electric start! Mine does not say tri-cycler but it does have a plastic plug and the bag. I'm taking it in for service today and I'm wondering if it would be worth it to have them put on the mulching blade? Would that essentially make it a tri-cycler?
