I'm new to mower engines but not to wrenching.
I got a non-running 345 for free. I put in a new battery. I've got no compression at all. Pulled the valve covers and the valves aren't moving at all. Is this because of the plastic gearing inside the case? Will repairs be worth the investment or should I walk away and skip the headache

according to tractor data.com this mower has the Kawasaki FDV590V, it is notorious for the plastic camshaft gear to grenade around 800 hours... There is a good video on replacement on the youtube channel Taryl Fixes All.
It wouldn't hurt to check that the push rods didn't hop off the cam followers (tappets), but most likely the plastic cam gear went blewey.
