I have a JD 265 garden tractor that I bought used a couple of years ago. I've recently begun having problems getting the mower to engage. After charging the battery it would engage and mow until I had to shut it off then I would recharge and repeat.
Last weekend the mower quit again but this time would not restart after charging the battery so I bought a new battery.
Engine starts great. Flip the PTO switch for the mower and I can hear it engage but the mower does not run. I checked and the belts are all in place, but the drive pulley turns freely making me think this is where the problem is.
Is there a pin or key securing the pulley to the drive shaft?
Might it have broken or come off or is this an indicator of a larger problem?
