What a week and a half it has been with my 12 year old JD 255 tractor. tHis tractor has been most reliable all of these years and I have treated it to annual oil/filter change, fuel filter, air filter, spark plug, etc. She looks a little rough due to a ripped seat, etc. but otherwise taken care of. Approximately two months ago she started to sputter a litle got a little orse and then died and would not restart. I talked to the local John Deere dealer and they told me it was most likely either water in the gas or corosion due to the ethinal in the fuel. I took the rear fend shroud off, emptied all of the gas, rebuilt the carburator, replaced all of the fuel lines, fuel filter and reassembled. She started and then died after 15 seconds. Spent several days of frustration and conversation with the local JD dealer and determined it was most likely the ingnition module. Put the new module in and she fired up for 15 seconds and then died. Keep in mind I gapped everything and installed everything according to JD. Went back to my JD dealer and told him that what was going on and that it still would not run and that I tried starting it so muchthat gas was coming out of the muffler at the bottom of the engine. He immediatly stated it was a float problem and that it was probably stuck. He took out an old carb from his tool box to show me how it may be sticking and that is when I realixed that I forgot to put the needle valve back into the float. installed needle valve into the float when I got home and SHAZAMM she started and ran fairly well. I can still hear a little bit of a sputter, even though it is very slight it still has me concerned and will check with my local JD dealer sometime this morning and will keep all of you posted. Throughout the week I have assembled a list of Youtube videos and carb rebuild sites. I will hopefully have time before the end of the day to list and share them with all. If I had come acros the youtube video earlier I would not have forgot to put the needle valve in. How embarissing, but it is one of the hazards of getting olde and loosing site in one eye. That is my story and I am sticking to it. I will touch base with all soon.

Bob
