Hello all. I am new to this site but did try searching for my issue but didn't find where a similar question had been asked. I have a John Deere z425 with the Briggs engine. I tried to start it yesterday but did not have any luck. I had just ran it the previous day with no issues. When the key is turned a humming sound comes from near the engine. The engine does not crank. I tried jumping it with my truck with no luck. I put on a battery charger and battery checked full charge. I also double checked all the safety items and the brake is on, the blades are off, and the steering arms are in the start position. Any help you guys can offer will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your time.

Try removing the spk plg and see if it cranks without the resistance of compression. The cyl could be full of fuel and hydro-locked. If it doesn't crank, try rotating the flywheel by hand. If it doesn't turn freely, It could be froze up.

Sounds like the starter is frozen.
