JD Lt 180 backfires after has been running and hot?

My brother in law has a JD lt180 which after mowing for an hour turned off, and then when started up it will backfire…

Don’t be swayed by the “hot” comment, I just mean that it’s been running. And otherwise a good running mower.

Any thoughts?
