JD 425 cranks with key in on position.

I spent 3 days trying to figure out how the start cycle was bypassing the unplugged seat switch, pto switch, clutch switch, and the key in the run position. The pto switch and the clutch switch should of prevented even powering the relay, and the key switch should of kept the relay from grounding. But it would still crank.

The only way I could even justify it cranking was it was getting power to crank from the ignition relay.
 
I like to compare wiring schematics to a roadmap. Not all of the "roads" are on a map, just the ones that the design artist thought were important at the time. Old "country road shortcuts" are often not on a drawn map.

Along with that, I have not met an engineer (yet) that took the most direct route with a design.

Example: I recently had a Husqvarna rider that had a broken ground for the "2-pin" start solenoid in the harness that was ran all the way back in a loop from the headlights. I had no wiring diagram at the time and that thing had me scratching my head until I found the broken ground wire hidden in the headlight harness wrapping/tubing

It made no sense to me why they wired it that way. The machine could have easily had a "1-pin" start solenoid installed that had an internal ground, because the solenoid was mounted to the metal chassis near the battery under the hood.

I know that feeling. Worked on a Honda TRX450 a few years ago that lost spark. Actually would spark once when the start button was released. What they didn't tell you was one of the 3 wires that went from the stator to the voltage regulator also was the AC signal wire for the ECU to tell the computer that the engine was cranking or running. When the voltage regulator shorts to ground on that leg of the stator you loose spark.
