My perfect girlfriend came with a huge yard and a very used 170 mower. From the first time I used it, to engage reverse mandated a insanely hard slap of the shifter, back and to the right. The forward gears have no real detent. More of a hunt and pray. And finding neutral always a mystery. You just ease the clutch out and see what happens.
Today reverse left the mortal coil.
So far I have been unable to find any specs or diagrams for the shift linkage. Before I condemn the tranny for a internal failure, are there any suggestions for adjusting the linkage? Humbly consider myself a above average wrench turner. Access to tranny seems limited at best. Clutch seems solid. Small aluminum capped tube runs up next to fuel tank from tranny. If hydro fluid required, how do I check level and what viscosity is required? Is there any relationship to belt tension from engine pulley to tranny pulley as far as shifting?
