I have an IS2000Z vintage 2015 mower that has a leaking shaft seal on the bottom of the left pump, the input shaft. Is it reasonable to replace this seal from the bottom so I don't have to remove the pump? I have a chain fall so I can lift the mower however is the best. I was thinking lifting up the front would be the safest.

You might be wondering why I say it going to be probably messy. Well the pump housing is like a bucket that the oil goes in and out at the top. So drain the system just will not drain that bucket. Really you should replace all the gaskets but it is your choice. I do know the bypass valve will be harden and can start leaking.
My neighbor with a Hustler Super Z had nothing but leaks with his pumps. As I fixed one leak another one would show a week or so later. Luckily so far they all have been top side oil leaks. The only thing I haven't change is that bottom input oil seal on either so will probably be the next oil leaks.
Now I have changed only one input seal but horizontally mounted. Due clearance issues it had it had to be wiggled out out the frame and that seal replaced.
If it is the seal I thinking you have it is a TC 17x40x7.

How does the factory suggest removing the pulley? It seems the 1/4 inch bolts are not enough push. What torque do I tighten the bolts when I go to put it back on? I maybe will try drilling and tapping some 5/16 or 3/8 holes. Or get out my MAPP gas and heat the pulley?

Normally the bolts will separate the lock collar from the pulley by tightening each bolt a little at a time until they separate. Just check the lock collar for set screws, because they will set screw the collar to the shaft on some applications.
I got it fixed! It was not practical to get the bottom seal out. I removed the pump, then the seal. The bottom bearing was missing about half of the roller cage. I took apart the pump, replaced the bearing and seal. Used a magnet to clean the reservoir and changed the filter. After three hours cutting, appears to be fine.
