IS lawnmower battery AC or DC voltage, I have a muti tester with ac and dc but the battery section says only up to 9V?

Lawnmower batteries are DC. rider batteries, and electric start push mower are 12V electric push mowers are 18,24,36,48 V

Thanks. So am i correct in thinking i would not use my multimeter section which is for "Battery up to 9 volts" to test the riding mower 12 Volt battery, but choose instead the DC section?

Correct, you will use the DC section of your meter. I would say the battery up to 9 V is for testing AA,A, C, D and 9 V batteries

Thank you very much, helping out someone who is pretty ignorant of how the lawnmower works but I am using this occasion of the tractor not starting to learn about it.

Don't forget that the charging system starts as AC from the stator or the magneto. The voltage regulator takes the VAC (about 28 to 35 vac). So, make sure you know that you do have VAC if you have a battery on board.
