Inaccurate fuel gauge on 48" Exmark Lazer Z Advantage Series

I have panicked a few times when I notice my fuel light on and I am not in an area where I should to run out of fuel. I terminate mowing and drive it back to my trailer, load up and drive miles to a gas station. I'm am perplexed when it only takes perhaps 3 gallons and the unit is full. I'm at a point that I cannot trust the fuel reading any more. Is there something I can do to resolve this and restore my faith in the fuel reading?

First check electrical connections by hand at underside of gauge making sure they are not loose.

I think that helped the issue. I pulled the cover and under it was a ton of grass and old clippings, I cleaned this out, removed the electrical plugs and cleaned them and installed everything. I think it is happy now. Thanks.
