I am back for further help. I am not knowledgeable in working on engines but trying hard to learn. I have received substantial help from the forum, which I really appreciate. The help I received has helped me to progress.
My latest issue is:
I am replacing a camshaft on a Craftsman with a Flathead engine 19hp. Model 42E707. All was going well until I was turning the engine, and a part dropped out. My knowledge is so poor I do not know what this part is and where it came from.
I have taken some photos of the part, can someone help and identify this piece and where it goes. Perhaps I should not be attempting these fixes, but I really enjoy messing around on the mower and enjoy learning. I have become dependent on this forum as I could attempt none of my repairs without the knowledge I can receive help from you all.
that would be the cap for the governor gear. It is the part that moves when the engine is running and the weights on the camshaft push on that cap which moves the governor arm to reduce the engine speed.
open the wing brackets on the governor and then slide the cap onto the shaft, once its on, the wing brackets have tabs to hold it in place so it shouldnt come back off.
since it came off are you sure the governor is on properly?
go watch a few youtube videos and they show you how to install it and how to set it once you put the crankcase back together
