Sorry, but I have not been around much lately, and I have no idea what you are talking about. Without knowing what type of equipment you are asking about and how it is hooked up it could be none or a dozen parts. A Snapper rear engine rider has none and a Kubota Series M tractor can have as many as 12 or more depending on setup.
I have a riding mower Weed Eater 259723 Im trying to find out what tabs on the ignition switch have power I want to put a volt meter on but want It to work when I turn the key to run with the engine off.
Ok so how would I wire the volt meter hook positive up to battery and other to ground but then It's gonna stay on or will I need to put a switch between?
That switch would be wired with the Red lead to battery positive and Black lead to ground. If you don't want to have a constant readout, yes you would have to install a shut off switch into the circuit.
Don't know if your switch is made this way, but most of the five or six blade Indak type switches have the terminals labeled with a letter. With the key in the run position, you will have continuity between the B and R and A terminals. When key is in off position, you will have no continuity between those terminals and the M terminal will have continuity to ground. When key is in start position, you will have continuity between the B and S terminals. You could run a volt meter hooked to the R and A terminals and not have constant voltage when key is in off position if your switch is set up this way.
Earlier you said that you had a 5 terminal switch, but the one you posted is a 7 terminal switch. That makes my earlier post wrong. You are going to have to clean the terminals on that switch and tell us the letter label on each terminal if you want more help. We can't help unless we know what component we are talking about.
Sorry you had to go through that, Mr. Fish does not like me or my posts. I've just finished a busy week and haven't been able to get back to you sooner.
Take a look at the attached picture, and it may help.
Test your switch for continuity between the B and L terminals with the switch in the run position. If you have continuity and your B terminal goes back to the battery, probably connected at the solenoid, then you can connect the RED lead of the volt meter to the L terminal and the BLACK lead to any good ground. This should give you a reading on the meter anytime the key is in the run position.
Thanks Rivets It arrived and I installed It so It only comes on when I turn the key and I redid the headlights so everything comes on when I turn the key.
