Idle rpm

Have a Briggs model 140000 series 1000. I have the high rpm at 3500, but can't get the idle rpm below about 2400 rpms. I have the the idle screw turned all the way out. Should the idle be at 1750? Anyone know of a way to lower the idle without changing the top speed? Thanks all.

Thanks, but I already had this information. It does not cover model 140000. I tried some of the settings anyway. If I set the idle speed, it changes the high speed. If I change the high speed, it changes the idle speed. I guess I will just set the high speed, and let the idle speed run fast. Rivets, thanks for your help and understanding.

Please post your exact model, type and code numbers and if possible a few pictures of the carb and linkage. If that manual doesn’t cover it, I’m confused.

This is the engine that I replaced, same carburator. 14d937-0101-g1

That is not a 140000 series engine, but a 14 series L-head engine. Totally different manual. First of all that carb has been run hard and put away wet, meaning abused. First thing you need to do is give it a good cleaning. Next, after it is cleaning, the governor should be adjusted, which after see pics I would say is part of your problem. From that point reset your governed top speed to 3200 RPM’s. A walk behind mower should be run at full throttle at all times, so no real need to worry about idle speed.
