Hi,

first of all I apologize for my English, I'm Norwegian.

To my problem: I have an lawn mower with an Briggs and Stratton 18hp twin II. I have some trouble recognizing the stator. The tractor is at my summer house and I cant go and look at it whenever I wonder what things look like. But I have taken a few photos. I hope someone can help! Engine Modell: 422707 Type: 150801 Code: 88011312

Hi andkri,
Click on this link to get parts and operators and parts manuals for you engine.

The second picture that you show is the ignition coil for the spark plugs.
The stator is under the flywheel.
Does this engine have a voltage regulator that is mounted on a metal panel? It may have a red wire and two yellow wires coming out of it. Look thru the electrical portion of the parts manual to see if any parts shown look like parts on your engine electrical system. Briggs & Stratton identify the ignition coil as an Armature-Magneto. "Magnatron" is the trade name for this type of ignition system. This ignition coil fires both spark plugs at the same time every revolution of the engine.

Hi,
thanks for the answer.

no, I have not seen a voltage regulator. The tractor is old and the electrical system is more or less removed. My aim is to install a new voltage regulator and wires so that it will charge the battery. I have read that it is supposed to be possible to identify the stator type by the electrical wires. I thought maybe the red and white wire came from the stator, but I might be wrong. I will try one more picture, maybe they are from the stator and can identify the type? The cables are all black, but they might have been painted..

Otherwise I have to take off the flywheel to see if I can recognize the parts from the parts list?

Looks like a 3 amp DC 5 amp AC harness. the 3 amp is for charging the battery, and the 5 amp is for the headlights.

Sounds OK to me guys, not very familiar with engines that don't have regulator/rectifiers.
With linked info, OP should be able to determine what he has.
