Identification of a strange piece in my mower that failed connectivity testing

When I was cutting the lawn the mower died. When I tried restarting with the key no sound. I took apart the machine and tested each component. I began at the battery and it is testing 12 v the. To the solenoid and it was faulty so I replaced it. Still no start so back to testing. There is a piece that shares a bolt with the solenoid. It has three wires coming out of it that goes to a black plug. The piece is aluminum and domed shape. This piece failed continuity. I also checked the circuit breaker and it is good. I have checked grounds and cleaned (with electronic connection spray) all connections. What is this piece and is it faulty? Thank you

Lets not start guessing and start with the model and serial number of the mower so we can look up wiring diagrams. And if possible a picture of the component. I suspect it is a relay.

I have a hydrostatic 4212 Simplicity mower. I am having trouble uploading a picture, but the piece sits next to the solenoid.

I suspect that this is what you are looking for but looks different than whats on your due to superceding part numbers and module replacement kits

Item 24 on this diagram https://www.partstree.com/models/4212-h-1691340-simplicity-lawn-tractor-12hp/electrical-group-2/

The illustration looks close to what you described but they have changed the part to look like something else.
