My Kawasaki 13Hp FE400D in my 2002 MHGHS let go catastrophically at the weekend and there's now a hole in the casing. I am looking at replacing the motor rather than repair as it will be cheaper.

I have an FE400D-AS04 but I can only seem to find an FE400D-AS00 for sale. Does anyone have any experience in what the differences are?

Alternatively, is there any other engine that I could put in to this particular chassis? I've been told that the chassis are all different for the different power options back in the day andit wouldn't be easy to slot in a briggs and stratton?

I've Got an FE290, same engine size but different displacement
I think either the Honda GX300 or GX340 is almost a drop in replacement,
Exhaust mounts the same, same shaft size, and electric start optional.

There shouldn't be much difference in as04 and as00, if they are, very minor.
I did see a cylinder block on eBay for $170 new... That's cheap.
