Alright. I am the kind of kid that tears everything apart and builds something out of it. My questions is my buddy has a like 3 or mowers and the one mower that runs has a blown hydrostatic drive and the rest are mechanical??(not the hydros lol) drives. So could i strip the hydrostatic gear off and get a solid output shaft to mount a pully to and then take a different tanny outa one of the other mowers and run belts back to the tranny and make it work? or it there no outshaft that i could mount a pully too? ohh and i am not at all planning on mowing with this. This would be a speed build mower/mud mower/putt putt around the yard when bored. not sure yet, need to get a mower first lol.:thumbsup:

Wait...arent both run by a belt that goes to a pully on top of the trannys? so all i would have to do is swap the trannys out and get a correctly sized belt??

Yes your best bet is transplanting a working transaxle, will need to do some fabrication, if you can find a geared transaxle that would be the best, the MTD vari drive the hardest, the way to tell the veri drive has a belt from engine to transaxle and another belt and pulley on top of it.

Geared will have just one belt to top of or side of transaxle.
If you will list the model # and who made it (i.e. Craftsman, Husqvarna, John Deere etc.) we can tell you what it has in it.

Alright thanks for the advice. I went ahead and just googled them both in and i can see where a MTD Vari drive would get more difficult. Thanks!
