Hydro Gear Manual

Does anyone know where I can download a service manual for a Hydro Gear 312-0800. Can't find one for a 312 just for the 310. I have the parts breakdown, but would like a service manual before I tear this one apart. Thanks in advance. Rivets

IlEngine, when I only that site I am only getting a parts manual, no service manual shows up. Am I doing something wrong?

I posted that this morning then realized that you where looking for the service manual. I can't find a manual for the 12 either, just the 10. Hydrogear site doesn't even show a manual for that tranny. I also checked my old hydrogear paper manuals but didn't have that one either. I am wondering if they are using the 10 manual for the 12 also. From what I could find it is a discontinued tranny out of a Simplicity.

About the only thing that goes wrong other than an occasional seal leaking is the motor, center section gets scored and basically destroys the main parts of the tranny. About the only thing that you can salvage most of the time is the differential and the case. And I have popped the threads in the case when retorquing the center section.

I thought the same thing, until I noticed that the 310 had split axles and the 312 has a one piece axle/differential. Believe it or not, but the axle broke, it did not twist, but had a linear split/crack and just finally broke. I am replacing the axle, bearings and seals, everything else looks good. Has you know, having a service manual on hand makes it easier to fix dumb mistakes when your have to guess on reassembly. Guess I'll have to rely on a 310 and hope nothing weird turns up. That's why they call me a grease monkey. Thanks IlEngine for trying.

Very interesting. Part number I was going to order was #70258 at a price of $225.00 from my distributor. Before ordering I will give them a call and see if the axle is still available. Thanks for the tip.

My distributor shows the 50079 in stock for $50.00 and the 50080 for $43.34 but none in stock at this time.

Picked up the parts today and just got done reassembly. Tomorrow I will add oil and check for leaks. Can't test until I install it, as it is a hydro. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Whats the recommended oil in a hydrogear?
321-0510 box fitted to a Husqvarna CTH150 XP.
If I remember right it was 20-50.
Old machine but changing oil to try and improve performance.
I found a fill plug at top so removed box to empty.

HydroGear recommends 20W-50 in most of their units of this style. That's what I use.

I thought thats what it was.
I think the oil wont make a difference as box noisy and old oil is very silver.

Silvery oil is an indication of metal flakes in the oil, which usually means big $$$$$. If it's milky silver it might be water, but I doubt it.

Just got done installing and testIng the unit. Everything works as it should. IL the one thing I think I figured out is that the manual for the 310 tranny will work for the 312 tranny. While I had it tore down I looked at the assembly and all the parts and to me everything looked the same. Thanks for all your help, I owe you one. Rivets

simplicity service bulletin,98-14, replace transmission pulley set screws p/n..1708269 torque to 90-100 inch lbs,may not mean much, but i was looking for the 312--800 and i found my books from the simp update seminar from 1998,and the hydro gear 310-0800 repair manual was in there,i remember replacing one input shaft on a regent but the owner was towing lawn ornaments around his yard.lol
