Hi,

I have a Ferris IS500Z that I bought new in 2007. A few weeks ago a high pressure hose on the right side blew a hole and was replaced. A week later the other hose on the same side blew a hole and was replaced. Yesterday (a week later) one of the hoses on the left side blew a hole. I’m going to replace both hoses on the left side now.

A friend had warned me that, at the golf course he used to work at, if a hose failed they would replace a set of them expecting that others were soon to fail. Is that a common experience with these high pressure hoses or is there something wrong with my hydraulic system? Unlike most ZT mowers that I see on YouTube my mower has a single hydro oil tank and filter for both sides.

Not a bad idea
 
In some applicators the advice is to replace "rubber" hoses at 5 year intervals. In my view this is a little over the top UNLESS SAFETY PART OF THE CONSIDERATION, then go 5 years Max.

Silicon hoses will usually outlast "rubber" but cost a lot more.

Rubber hoses, in non safety situations (ie failure may result in death/injury) can often have their condition assessed by a combination of visual inspection & manual manipulation;
  • Visual: any sign of deterioration,eg bulges, cracking, fraying, cuts, abrasion or outer surface comming of on hand/crumbling - replace
  • Manual: bend /press pipe - is it stiff (can be a good idea to have a new sample to compare with). Any loss of flexibility should indicate replacement.
  • Some lower quality fuel line will get softer, even sticky, when continually exposed to fuel - replace
