Looking at the 2 mowers listed above with 60/61" deck in either Kaw power or Vanguard EFI power. What do you all think? Pro's and cons of both.

My father has a snapper pro S200xt with the big block vanguard, and my partner at work has an x-one with the FS series Kawasaki engine. The x-one isn't as bulky as the s200xt, and isn't as tall either. The vanguard is a higher end commercial engine with a better air filtration system than the FS Kawi. The zt5400 hydros on the s200xt are also top of hydrogear's line. They both leave a great cut, but you get more bang for your buck with the s200xt. You should be able to get the s200xt for about $8500. That's what hey run around here anyway. The x-one runs about $9k in our parts. Both are excellent mowers though. You can't go wrong with either.

I was leaning towards Kawi if I went with the 200XT, but the more I read I think I'd go with the Vanguard EFI. I like the simplicity of the X-One though. My local dealer has both, so I guess I'll see what kind of cash price I can talk them in to on the bigger FX850 Kawi on the X-One and what kind of price I can work out on the 200XT with the EFI. Any other input??? I've had a few Scags, and one Hustler in the past, but I'm to the point where I want to get something from a nearby dealer that I can go to if I need anything. This will be my first brand new one; getting tired of buying used ones and having issues.

I have the FX series Kawi on my s150xt, and I am pleased with it. The big block Vanguard on the s200xt is very powerful. I am a fan of the FX series engines, but I have to admit that I would take the 37hp big block EFI vanguard over the FX850. Both are excellent engines, but the vanguard is much more powerful. Honestly though, you should be satisfied with either mower, or engine option you choose. Both are high quality machines with top of the line engines.

No such thing as a Hustler X-ONE with a Kawasaki FS unless someone replaced the FX with an FS.
Not sure what you mean by "bulkier". Usually bulky has a negative connotation when referring to mowers.
Not sure what you mean that "taller" is better when comparing mowers.
I've had an X-ONE, 60" rear discharge, FX730V Kawasaki since 2012. It is used in a 200 year old cemetery, it is one tough machine that is easy to service and at 1,250 LBS is smooth riding.
Current X-ONE models now have an adjustable suspension seat, but I don't feel the need for one as the seat on my 2012 machine is very comfortable.
I did replace the stock seat on my Scag Tiger Cub with a suspension seat.
Were I in the market for a new machine, I would consider an engine with EFI.
When looking at prices, one must compare apples to apples. EFI engines are more expensive than carb engines.

I will snap a picture of my partner's x-one and post it the next time I'm at his house. His has the FS series. He purchased it new that way in 2013. I was agreeing that it was an advantage that the x-one isn't as bulky. Never said the s200xt was better because it was taller either. Those were the advantages I pointed out for the x-one. You misinterpreted what I posted.

I knew what you meant Shughs. Going to try to get to the dealer saturday to check both out side by side. Sold my old mower lastnight so definitely have to pull the trigger now.

I called dealer earlier to atleast get verbal pricing so I would have a ballpark number to start with. The 200XT with 810 Vanguard EFI is $800 less than the X-One with Kawi fx730. Can bump up to fx850 on the X-One for about $400 more as well. I saw on Hustlers website there is currently a rebate on X-Ones, but doesn't say what so I need to look into that. Are dealers able to bargain some on mowers like car dealers? Or is the price they have on them the price? Like I said, have never dealt with buying a new mower before.

Depending on the dealers economic status and if they have to purchase machines thru a distributor, their markup, which isn't a whole lot, can vary. Power equipment dealers and car dealers operate very differently. A small car dealer may sell 100 new cars per month, a very big power equipment dealer may sell 50 machines a month in season.
As for machine comparison, I own an X-ONE and have serviced a few Hustler machines over the years. Hustler has the most basic and simple maintenance schedule of any that I have had experience with. In addition to their maintenance schedule, the V belt tensioning system that they have is by far the best to deal with. Also the parking brake system that Hustler has is simple, the parking brake is applied as soon as the operator moves the levers outboard in the neutral position. This is particularly good if the operator needs to get off the machine periodically to remove objects in their way. The operation of the X-ONE for slow an tedious control is by far superior to any machine that I have operated. This has been a very favorable operating characteristic in a cemetery around grave stones and such, some operators may not be concerned about slow speed control and operation.
As for engines, my X-ONE has a Kawasaki FX730V and has performed flawlessly for 400 hours so far. As we also have to mow 5 acres of unused cemetery, this machine does that area with no problem, sometimes the grass is 2 feet tall and needless to say that takes more time.
As for engine choice, you will need to make that decision. As I have mentioned, were I to be in the market for a new machine, I would consider an engine with EFI, however EFI does require more electrical equipment to be installed on both the machine and the engine making the machine more complex and expensive.
Just my thoughts!!!:laughing::biggrin::smile:

I don't know if this matters to you or not, but the Vanguard is also built by a Japanese company. It's made by Daihasu, which is owned by Toyota. Briggs just partnered with Daihatsu. As I mentioned, I am very pleased with my FX series engine, but that big block vanguard on dad's mower is a beast.

Hmm, can aslo get the 200XT with a Kawi fx801, they just don't have one in at the moment. What is the difference in 801 and 850? They appear to be same displacement but 850 shows higher HP rating at 27hp to the 801's 25 hp. Is that the only difference? The price is same on the 200 XT with Vanguard or Kawi.

Hi Sonders,
In the Kawasaki FX 651, 691 and 730, the only difference is the carbs, I suspect that the same applies to the FX 801 and 850 engines.

Just to update, I ended up going with the X-One. It was the one I had originally planned to buy before looking at the Snapper so went with my first instinct. Plus the fact it has better warranty and the simplicity of it is nice. I did have a bit of buyers remorse, but I'm getting over it. I've mowed for a few weeks with it now and it is nice and smooth. The cut quality of my old Turf Tiger isn't there, but I'm not trying to win any lawn maintenance awards.

The X-One is a great mower. As I said before, you couldn't have gotten it wrong either way. Congratulations on getting your new toy!
