Serviced on regular bases. Runs like a brand new mower. Great. But burns oil but has never smoked. Why burning oil?

How do you know it is burning oil if you do not see smoke? Leak maybe? Could only be leaking when running. Park it on concrete and run it for a few minutes to see.
