Husqvarna Manual overstates the amount of oil needed when changing

The Operators Manual recommended amount of oil overfilled my YTH21K46 at oil change.

I did my 25 hour oil change today. The sticker under the hood and the Husq manual read that the capacity with an oil change is 64 ounces. I changed oil and filter and poured in two quarts of oil. Well, now I am ~3/4 inch above the fill line!

I did not receive an operator or service manual for the Kohler Courage 21 HP engine that is in it. I browsed online, found one, and read that this motor capacity is 1.6 quarts! It looks like that includes filter as well.

Screenshots of each are at the end of this post.

Now tomorrow, I guess, I need to drain out a little oil to be sure I don't have too much pressure on any gaskets or seals....

Why would there be this inconsistency? Can't this cause problems? I could see it causing problems that would void Kohler's warranty.

Hey, I still love my Husky! I hope I can continue to say that about another seven years, +/-.

The original Courage engine held 64 ounces, but it was found that some people were having smoking problems when mowing on slopes, and the oil level of the engine was reduced to help prevent this problem. The change of the engines included a new dipstick which lowered the full level, as well as adding a gasket to the internal breather system. You Husky manual doesn't reflect the updated specs.

Well, that makes plenty of sense. Glad I caught it.
