Husqvarna 6021P Won't Start

I bought a Husqvarna 6021P with a Kohler Courage XT6 engine on it about 1.5 years ago. I used it twice, and shortly after that my neighbor started mowing my lawn so it sat in my shed for a year or so with fuel in it. I obviously have no clue how to take care of a lawnmower, but when it didn't start I had a friend come over who is a good mechanic to take a look at it. What he figured out after taking it apart is that the jet is clean, the float works, the fuel lines are clear, the spark plug is still good. It has new fuel and clean oil but it will only run on starting fluid. Is there something else that we're missing? Its super clean still, but won't run. Any further tips to get this thing running are GREATLY appreciated!!

I am assuming that it has the afterfire solenoid on the bottom of the carb bowl. Can you hear it click when you turn on the key. If no click, make sure sure you are getting battery voltage at the solenoid, and if yes, then either clean the solenoid and retry, or replace the solenoid. if no voltage you will need to track down where you are loosing power.
