Hi everyone! I have a HRC215 commercial mower with hydrostatic tranny. The connecting rod snapped and found one replacement on Ebay for $100. I've seen some rods that are for sale out of gx140 honda, but on Ebay, the description says it is from a Honda power washer. Are the parts ( pistons and rods) from any Honda GX140 the same was found in the HRC215? Seems to be that many parts listed for the gx140 are also listing compatibility for the HRC215. I love this mower and would rather rebuild it than throw it away.

We will need the rest of the serial number off the ID tag or the engine numbers. This will allow us to identify the parts you need.

Here are some numbers the shop provided. Hope this helps!
HTC 215k1
133100zg9-p50 for a crankshaft and
13200-ze6-010 for connecting rod assembly.
The lawnmower was run with too low of an oil level. The mower shop believes the connecting rod broke, but in there opinion, often the just the rod and sometimes the rings need to be replaced. When I asked about damage to the crankshaft or scoring of the piston walls, the said a lot of times they are ok.

There are some 13200-ze6-010 connecting rods on eBay. Not sure what normal scoring looks like on a bearing but here is the link if anyone wants to give an opinion.

From what you are telling us, I don’t think you are going to like me or my answers. Sorry if that is the case, but based on my experience I must be brutally honest. First, you need to get a new service shop. These guys are just guessing, as they have you looking for parts before they have even opened the engine. Not a go sign. Second, I asked for serial and engine numbers, which they should be able to supply you very quickly. You’ve provided only half of the needed numbers. Third, you asked about crankshaft and cylinder walls, again they are guessing they are OK. If you are seriously considering repairing this engine, dump these guys first. On your question about scoring, only a very close look and trained eye can give you a quality answer. Piston scoring, cylinder scoring, bearing scoring, and journal scoring are all different. Here again is where you need to go to a qualified tech to get a quality answer. Plus I would never put a used part in a rebuild unless I had absolutely no other way to complete the job. In this case being penny wise and pound foolish will bite you in the butt everytime.

Thank you. Yes I agree, the shop is guessing without opening it up. I think Ill call today and see what they'll charge to open it up and see what the real problem is. Or I can do a project with my son and open it with him. Never done it but always wanted to learn more about engine repair. Ill get a serial number.
