I havent got an owners manual yet for my woods 5215 (grasshopper 721D) 1994ish. Are you suppost to preload the chains on the traction kit? If so how much and what is the best way to do so?

I stood on the bracket and then hooked the chain in aprox the 3rd link from the end is that ok?

when i got it they were both hooked at the end of the chain on both ends, a little slack in the middle no tension at all.

Not that i am going to be mowing tomorrow anyway just wanted to know.

On a side note any battery recomendations? It is a group 75 (snug fit so a bigger one wont fit). my main choices are NAPA, Interstate, or John Deere.

Thanks
Brian

The third link sounds about right but in the end its the feel of the machine and the traction your getting. There is also adjustments on the spring itself for fine tuning.

Keep in mind it makes a difference if you have a hopper tank on the back of the machine and a blower on the deck as far as how much transfer you can use.

At the end of the day trying different settings for your situation will serve you the best.
