The right front wheel fell off a few times. Had to replace the wheel. Noticed wheels face outward at an angel right and left. Also steering column is loose (nut won't tighten, or loosen!) Could this be related? Tried taking off the right side draglink bolt and slightly stripped bolt trying to loosen. I don't see any bent metal. Any Ideas?

Are there plastic bushings in the wheels? They may be worn down and need replacing.
Check steering gear for wear also. Is there a bushing where it goes through the dash?

I'm in the middle of working on my husqvarna with the same problems. I found the bolts holding the drag link to the spindle and the steering post bothe bent some which made a huge difference in the toe in/ toe out. Also, lots of play in the steering when the steering post gear teeth are chewed up pretty good. Thats the expensive part. My steering post had to come out the bottom as the gear was too big to be pulled up through the mounting brackets, so I had to drop the deck and get the mower up in the air. Don't really know about your Craftsman. Hope this helps. Let me know how you make out. Gearjammer

I was having alignment problems On my craftsman 48 inch tight turn mower. I contacted Parts direct And found out that they make new adjustable Steering tie-rods. Front wheels should be aligned slightly Towed in, about 1/4 to 1/2 inch.
