Hey everyone. Im new to the forum. I'm starting my own business and was curious what do you do to market ? Besides word of mouth what do you find works best generating new customers?

Craigslist. Service offered in farm and garden. Get most of my customers here. Remember craigslisters are instant gratification at its worst if you don't answer your phone they call the next on the list other wise I have gotten many loyal customers this way

Thanks. I honestly wouldn't think you would get good work from Craigslist. Just spam and nuts. I will definitely try that out. Appreciate the input

I use craigslist to get my customers i list all my mowers for sale on there and a add to do repair with both cell and home number on it works great for me i also use the free adds in the news paper and also word of mouth i also use business cards i have put around at diffrent places and i always give one to a customer to give to someone else i also use a local small engine repair shop that sends me alot of there over flow since he dont work on any brands he dont sell this time of the year or sends me customers to buy when he dont have what there looking for works great good luck

Craiglist is good for a business that's starting out but I wouldn't rely on it for really good paying customers and the problem with CL is you end up with customers spread out all over the place and you spend more time on the road than mowing lawns and making money. You can go to Vista Print

and get FREE Business Cards or 250 Premium Business cards for $10 with those you could choose a sub-division and go door to door and leave your card in the door. It's really pretty cheap advertisement. Try to stay or keep your business in one sub-division if possible and your homers close together, it will cut your travel time and cost way down. You can generally come away with 3 to 5 customers per hundred cards. Do a good job on those and let word of mouth do the rest.

We started up last August. We have been doing real well using Face book. I had a Facebook account for a couple of years and have like 2400+ friends plus there are several sites for our area that are buy sell and trade sites and some speak out sites locally. Best advertising I have used and it is free.
