Hour Meter

I have a new XT1 46 that I purchased from Home Depot about 4 weeks ago that the battery went dead on in about a week that I had to return to the store for a new battery . I have only used it a few times since but today I noticed the hour meter read 37.7 which I would assume would be 37.7 hours on it which is impossible. I called Cub Cadet which was a waste of time,the person I spoke with was clueless and told me if it was a bad meter it wasn’t covered under warranty anyway. Am I reading this meter wrong or is it a faulty meter?

You are reading it correctly. And is it possible that the key may of been left on which would count up the hours and also account for the dead battery.
