Hot muffler

My weed eater one riding lawn mower all of a sudden the muffler is getting very hot. puttering as well. Any suggestions

Pull the engine shroud & make sure the fins are free of debris.

Is it running any different otherwise ?

Sounds like it's running really lean for whatever reason or the plug/s is either wrong or has issues. it could also be a couple of other issues. I would especially check the exhaust valves and push rods.
