I am hoping someone can offer some information on how to repair my Honda Walk Behind Lawn Mower. I just recently acquired a Honda HRB216TDA 5.5 hp Honda lawn mower. It has not been in storage (with the fuel still in it) over ten years. Prior to that, it was used about three times. I have already replaced the spark plug, carburetor, gaskets and changed the oil. It starts up fine but never reaches full throttle. As it continues to run, the engine looses power. It always sounds like it getting ready to stop running. It seems that there isn't a difference in engine performance when the throttle lever is in the Choke position or Full Throttle position. Either way it sounds like it is going to die. Any suggestions on what to do? Any help is greatly appreciated.

If mower was in storage for years you need to check air filter & fuel strainer [ in gas line to gas tank ] for replacement.

Possibly the linkage for the throttle and choke are not connected corrected after carb change.
There was a nice diagram/drawing a few weeks back of that, posted by Robert@Honda.
Don't know if it was the same as yours. It should be easy to find in the Honda forum.

Yeah you need to either replace the carb or rebuild it. Sounds like a clogged. jet. Honda carbs are the cheapest around so replacing it shouldn't be a problem. If the problem keeps up then check the fuel cap and make sure it has the vent still in it. Fuel .tank may not be venting.
Believe a new carb was installed. Does the carb have adjustments? With the engine running, spray carb cleaner, ether, etc around carb mounting surface and or any related mating, mounting, gasket surface. If the rpms change / rise, that will indicate a vacuum leak which will need tightening, examination, etc. Is the plug new and properly gapped? Have you examined the plug after the poor performance?
