I am a diehard two stroker to the end but my brother is giving me his Lawn Boy Honda motor push n go trans with bagger. He claims it runs rough after he cleaned the carb and is puffing black smoke.No he did not want a Duraforce he went out and bought a Toro What it the issue with mixing gas and oil? I will say this two stroke Lawn Boy is the way to go and once you know your way around them they are kinda fun to work on.

The problem with the Honda smoking is he did not clean the carburetor properly and/or did not get the mounting gaskets installed correctly. If he used silicone sealant, he escalated the problem. Best solution since we don't know what he did to the carburetor is to get a new carburetor and all new gaskets from the cylinder out to the air box. Carburetors for these engines are very inexpensive, $15 - $30, depending. Make sure gaskets are installed correctly. Incorrectly placed gaskets will block vent passages, hence, black smoke or a no run condition will occur.
Instead of fighting to sandwich everything together for assembly, find or make a couple 83mm studs that will thread into the block, then you can stack everything easily and replace the studs one at a time with the factory bolt.

Did the mower come with a Honda engine originally? Photos please.

My Friend, now the true picture comes about. I apologize, I did not realize the picture of the Lawn-boy was the actual one in question as current Lawn-Boy mowers do have Honda engines on select models.
What you have is a Lawn-Boy Engine with a Honda Recoil Starter. It is most likely smoking because the muffler, which is located under the deck, needs to be separated and cleaned. It is all carbonned up. Common when junk 2-cycle oil is used. Clean it, messy but simple. Use premium fuel and Lawn-Boy oil. It will run almost forever.

yes it was a factory Honda lawnboy with the push n go trans and I think you are right my brother did not clean the carb good enough. it has the emulsion tube running up the middle which is non removable but don't quote me on that which is hard to clean. Jonny always used non ethanol fuel so it cant be too bad. I had another 4 stroke Lawn Boy brought back today the owner could not get it started after I cleaned the carb.Ran fine for me but I found crystalized residue in the float bowl and jets but SHOULD HAVE FLUSHED THE GAS TANK. oh well assumption is the what?: thanks for the tip on the studs to keep gaskets in line I am on that one.

You should be able to push the emulsion tube out for thorough cleaning. They usually take just a little more effort than you are comfortable with, but they are a service item.

took the carb off and cleaned it good found a plugged hole on the main jet and emulsion tube which came out easily. Had to shoot some starting fluid in the cylinder to get it going and replaced spark plug with a new NGK BPR6ES and it runs great and looks like new.
