Honda HRX Auto Choke Problem??

Good day,

Just found this forum and would very much appreciate any input regarding my Honda HRX217HYA mower. It is less than one year old and has performed flawlessly until this week. It just will not start without removing the spark plug and squirting a prime of gasoline into the cylinder. I can crank until blue in the face, remove the plug, and the plug is dry as the proverbial bone. I would suspect this all points to a malfunctioning auto choke. Once it starts and warms up, it acts perfectly normal.

Has anyone experienced this, and could you please share with me?

Thanks very much for the owner's manual but I received one of those with the mower. It does not cover what I am beginning to think is a poor design by Honda (automatic choke). It sure seems like I have lots of company in this area! Not feeling well today but will tear into it soon. Given the symptoms, I have to assume the choke is not closing and hence allowing no fuel into the combustion chamber. Once I tear into it I will then find out how this thing operates (of fails to in my case!)

I read from one owner who opens up air box and shoots raw fuel into the carb each time he needs to mow. He is used to it and I think that is very sad. I will follow up with what I find in the days to come.

Suggestion: Under members top of page, contact robert@honda with model number from mower, sticker or tag on mower, as well as the choke problem you are having. Robert will give you all the information for repair. If you want to save time and money, wait to hear back from Robert.
