Mower seems to have auto Choke
Wont start cold takes about 15 to 20 pulls to start.
When hot no problems starts every time.
can you please give a solution to the problem other than pouring gas down air cleaner.
thanks Fred

is the engine a GXV160?, the choke probably isn't closing fully to allow it to start cold

Yes 160 there dose not seem to be a separate choke control.

The throttle control & choke operate off the same unit, as you push the lever down past full throttle, the choke should engage, there should be a adjuster at the throttle control lever on the under side of that you will need a 10mm open end spanner to undo 2 nuts which should allow you to make an adjustment to allow to choke plate to close fully when the lever is fully pushed forward, or another adjustment may be possible by using a Phillips screwdriver & loosening the cable at carb end & pulling the cable back slightly to allow a bit more travel to allow the choke to engage - note that if you pull it back too far, the stop switch may not activate when engine is switched off.

Thank you for the reply:smile:
I will give it a try...
regards Fred

I have checked there are no adjustments at the lever.
Furthermore I noticed a lever operating a cam on top of the carby which I assume is the choke as per phot0 4Carby controls.JPG 4.JPG
It does not appear to be operated by the throttle cable at all......Carby controls.JPG 2.JPGCarby controls.JPG

As a update:
I have modified the choke lever by drilling a 2mm hole in it, and the base of the push lever , there inserting a split pin, the eye to allow rod which I made up similar to the rod on the choke to operate the choke lever.

And now after 3 years of having been frustrated with having to pull it 15 times to start the unit cold, It now starts 1st time leave it idle for a few seconds and then increase the revs, am stoked it works a treat.
Thanks to the Forum for getting me on the right track to resolve the problem..... I still cant get my head around that they sell the unit on Ebay that has a design fault.
