Bottom line up front... Does anyone have any recommendations for proper timing of HRB215SXA DL frame SN: MZBA6035.... engine SN: GJAB-6484...
Following Smither's excellent post detailing this engine tear-down, I now have my mowers guts scattered across my garage. I localized the problem (pinging and smoking) to a demolished assembly on the underside of the camshaft. New one ordered, new gaskets and blade standing by.
Unfortunately, i removed the original camshaft before noting that the crankshaft timing markings had long been rubbed off.
I tried using Smither's pictures to approximate timing mark based on location of various parts and crankshaft notches... but it binds up when I test-cycle it. I've tried several positions and adjustments. Short of trying to time it to every tooth on the camshaft... any recommendations?
Does anyone have a picture or diagram orienting the timing mark to any other feature of camshaft?
I know it's a long shot, I'm just not ready to call 'time-of-death' on this beast.
