Greetings. First post so please bear with me. I've got an old commercial HR self propelled that will not turn when pulling to start. Think it was run low on oil, and figured the cam was bad, so took the motor off and removed the valves. Buildup on valves, but piston clean. When I turned the shaft, have not removed clutch, piston goes up and down really smooth...better than I figured it would if new. Before I removed the engine, the shaft would turn counter clockwise, but jam when turned clockwise. Question: is it possible that my problem is with the blade clutch and not the motor? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

To make sure I'd remove the clutch, then try and turn it if you can in both directions then service and get the engine running right, then look at the clutch.
