Hey I am new to this so if I'm outta place just send me in the general direction of where I am supposed to be...

Ok I have a GV400 11hp Honda and the carburetor body 16100-891-073 (BB38A H) is shot. Does anyone know where I may find a used one or a retrofit/modification. Everywhere I've looked show them as obsoleted and EBay/CL searches have proved unsuccessful.

Thanks in advance,

senitram. Tell us what "shot" is. Then maybe the Honda experts will respond.

Hello Motoman,

Thanks for the feedback!

"Shot" means the stem that protrudes from the bottom of the carb body, that the float bowl threads into, is completely corroded away.

The float bowl on this version carb does not have a drain plug/screw. Therefore, as water accumulates in the bowl either by condensation or contaminated fuel, the pot metal-like stem is exposed to the water and oxidizes.

It is worth noting that Honda currently equips all of their small engine carbs with drain screws.

Well, depending upon how motivated you are to save the unit and how patient, I would compare inlet/displacement applications of acessible Honda carbs and try to adapt something. Hopefully the Honda guys will respond with their treasure troves of knowledge and parts. Also do not overlook the carbs used on Honda small displacement bike engines.
