I have a problem with the the Honda not starting. It will run with starting fluid so there is spark, but it will not continue. The unit has less then ten hours so the carb should not be to gumed up. It sounds like a fuel problem, but it has me stumped. There is a little black unit between the fuel tank and the carb, I think that may be some type of diaphragm fuel pump but I can find no info on it. And yes there is fuel in the tank. I have not worked around Honda much to know anything about them so what ever help you have would be useful.

What you are describing is the fuel pump. Briggs, and Kohler use the same pump. You will need to remove the fuel line to the carb, and crank the engine to see if the pump is working. Could also be a carb problem. Don't go through the problem and headaches of disassembly the carb for cleaner. A complete carb is less than $20.
Thank you for the reply. You said the replacement carb is less then 20 dollars, but you also said that black unit is the fuel pump. Would it be the fuel pump rather than the carb that is the starting problem? Is there any way to check the fuel pump? Lets say drain the fuel bowl, and then try and strart the unit and see if fuel is in the fuel bowl? would that show the pump is working? I do not find that unit on any parts list that I have seen, so it must not be replaced to offten. Thanks again for your help.
If you drain the carb, and then crank the engine, and check to see if the carb is refilled, and if it is, then I would say the fuel pump is working. Fuel pumps, for the most part, are not changed that often. With todays carbs, doesn't take much to plug them up, and prevent starting.

You said the 'unit' has less than 10 hrs run time. Most people will use a pressure washer for 20-30 min tops, then put the machine away. The next time they use it may be months down the road, with the old gas still in the tank.
I have had GC190's and GC160's coming in by the handfuls with carbs gummed up from water in the fuel (sans ethanol fuel).
As stated fuel pumps on these hardly ever go bad, but the carb problems...:thumbdown:
