I just bought a Honda 4514 hydro mower. During test run, mower worked fine. After delivery, mower starts fine, but the second I engage the PTO, the engine shuts off. Is there a safety switch on the deck? Is there some other reason for the mower to be shuting off? Seat switch is working fine and appears brand new. The deck did need to be removed to be delivered, could/was something not hooked up correctly?
Thanks in Advance!

If this is a new unit do not touch anything or you could void the warranty. Get the dealer back to do the repairs. If you bought used here is a website where you can download a service manual. Honda 4514 Manual Pdf - Free Owners Manual PDF. Sounds to me like you have a seat safety switch issue.

This is used. Seat switch checks out good. Really seems like it's tied to some interlock on the deck.. The owners manual says nothing about a deck safety switch. Just seems to coincidental that this happened after the deck had to be removed & replaced for transport.

Still would talk to the dealer. Does it have a manaul or electric PTO? Does it have a manual reverse override? Don't know Honda tractors that well, so have to ask questions.

No dealer. Manual PTO. No reverse override switch (don't believe this mower shuts off in reverse).

There are only two reasons that I can think of that the engine would shut off on units with manual PTO. One, seat switch bad, unit thinks no one is on the unit. Two, belts are not installed correctly, binding and will not move, lugging the engine down.

I'll have to give a good look at the belts. That seems very likely considering the deck was off and it ran just fine before. Thanks.

The Honda H4514 has a number of interlock/safety switches that would disable the ignition under certain conditions. For example, the seat switch would shut down the engine if the operator lifted up off the seat while the tractor was in motion.

I would guess that somewhere, one of the switches is either disconnected, wires to them are broken or grounding, or the switch itself is not working. Could be the seat switch, the PTO clutch switch, the Neutral switch, or the Parking Brake switch. Since the problem happens when you engage the PTO, I'd start with checking / testing the PTO switch. When pressed, there should be continuity between the leads of on the 2-pin connector. Here's an image to show the location:
