My wife was mowing the lawn the other day and ran over my sons metal thermos and when she hit it the cap got wedged between the blade and the mower housing and then engine stopped. When she went to restart it she said she got some black smoke but otherwise it wouldn't start. When I got home I attempted to start it but it wouldn't start. When I attempt to start it, it doesn't even feel like its attempting to fire. Anyone have any ideas?

Willing to bet that you will find a sheared flywheel key. Replace it and you'll be back in business.

I have rebuilt many car engines in the past so I am mechanically inclined. Is this a relatively easy fix?

Hardest part is pulling the flywheel. Normally about a 30 minute job.
